Fish Fry
The Fish Fry is a tradition unlike any other in Costa Mesa. It is the iconic “kick-off” to summer where thousands of Orange County residents come to enjoy the festivities, feast on Alaska Cod battered in the Lion’s secret recipe, ride carnival rides, play games, listen to headliner bands, enjoy the beer garden, and more! It is presented each year to help raise money for local and international charities, such as: CHOC Hospital, The Boys & Girls Clubs, Blind Children’s Learning Center, Lion’s Sight & Hearing Foundation, Someone Cares Soup Kitchen, Save Our Youth (SOY), CM Women’s Club Scholarship Fund, Orangewood Children’s Home, Knots of Love, Explorer Scouts, CM & Estancia High School Athletics, just to name a few.
Golf Tournament
This golf tournament is held each year to raise money for local charities and local schools athletics. The tournament was renamed two years ago in remembrance of Lion Ryan Ferryman who was the Lions Club President in 2020 and passed away unexpectedly in June of 2020. Many of you know at least one member of the Ferryman Family, as they have been involved at Costa Mesa High School, Costa Mesa Lions Club, and the Costa Mesa community for many years. We have changed the name of the Lions Club Tournament in remembrance of Lion Ryan.
Lion's Club International has had a float in the Rose Parade since 1995.
This year our float's theme was "Quest for Kindness" and won the Leishman Public Spirit Award - Most outstanding floral presentation from a non-commercial participant in the 133rd Rose Parade. This was a great way for all Lions to start 2022!
Melvin Jones Fellowship Award
Lions Clubs world-wide recognize outstanding individuals by bestowing on them an award that is named after its founder Melvin Jones. This award is the highest form of recognition and embodies humanitarian ideas consistent with the nature and purpose of Lionism.
For each Melvin Jones Award given the Costa Mesa - Newport Harbor Lions Club donates $1,000 which goes into the Lions Club Foundation, helping people around the world.
